An amazing spring day in Whangarei, in fact an awesome weekend! Saturday was Scott and Ken's first scallop dive of the season so we enjoyed a BBQ on the deck watching the sunset dining on scallops, pipis and fine food! Dessert was chocolate fondue inspired by the fantastic dinner fondue we enjoyed on Friday night at Mike and Kathy's house(our canadian exchange Firefighter and his family). Sunday morning was spent at Ocean Beach before a relaxing afternoon in the sunshine on the deck catching up with friends.... Unfortunatley no camera but luckily Scott's cellphone was on hand to take a few beach photos.....

Bali Adventures

BALI - what an amazing place - so many different things to see and do! We had an EXCELLENT holiday, great weather, great friends and so many adventures. Everyone's highlight was the Eco Cycle Tour which started at the top of the volcano and was an easy ride 25km downhill. Enjoyed the villages along the way, friendly locals, harvesting the rice and sampling the most expensive coffee in the world!! Yes, the coffee that has been eaten by a fox cat and then pooed out!! Tasted great. The day finished with the best lunch in Bali. Just a few pics... will add more soon, Rock You proved way to slow and my patience has run out!!!

Another night of dancing at the Hardcore show for Kesia and Lyric. Over a 6 week period they go to dance twice a week and learn the "moves" for 3 songs! They both love dancing and being on stage! What amazing dancers and great performers. We are proud of you girls!

The mission was to make a marble cake using a recipe found in a magazine. The boys set to work following the instructions and working as a team to create their masterpiece! Of course Kesia was on hand to give advice! They even did the dishes, what well trained boys! The finished product looked and tasted fantastic!

A busy weekend for the boys on a mission to build the best boat. Ryan stayed with Ross and designed and built their boats and Troy stayed with Jordan for their design and build mission. The boys met up on Sunday and Scott took them to the creek at Whangarei Intermediate to "float" and "sink" the boats. The aim was to see which boat floated best and then to do their best to sink each other's boats! Unfortunately Scott forgot to take the camera for shots of boats in action! Will have to design and build boats for another weekends attempt. Great to see them making plans together, all being so actively engaged in a project and enjoying the mission in the great outdoors!

Blake and Cameron were visiting today after school and Blake asked what our webcam was. I explained to him about skyping and we talked about how we can talk to other people and see them on our computer and that they can see us on their computer. Luckily Beverly was still at work so we were able to skype her at Manaia Kindergarten. After a few technical issues it was all go and Blake, Cameron and Jackie were able to see skyping in action! The learning journey continues to expand!

I took the Kindergarten digital blue movie maker home for the weekend and Jordan and Kesia got to create movies with their friends. What an experience. Throughout the day six noisy children, at various times, trying to be directors, producers and actors!!! Kept them busy all day Saturday and their end product is just toooooo big to upload and put on blog. May have to treat you to a small part only. The best thing was watching the amazing teamwork across a age range of children from 7 to 11 both boys and girls! Lots of interesting ideas and crazy children willing to be "out there" in front of the camera and their friends! Next time your visiting just ask to see it, make sure you grab a cup of tea and take a seat, it does take awhile!

Camping at Pataua - by Jordan

On Sunday I traveled to Pataua and went camping in a camper van at

Frog town when we got there we decided to go for a walk to the beach. We got told that something big was chasing fish into land so there were lots of fish all over the beach, we thought that we could use the fish as bait so we went to get the fishing lines and there were no hooks on them so we couldn`t go fishing . When we got back to the the camper van we decided to go down on the flying fox, it has been broken for a while so we fixed it and went up and down it for half an hour. After that we had dinner, for dinner we had a pie. After dinner we played cards and went to bed. When we woke up and had breakfast we went to climb the mountain, it was hard to climb the mountain because it was really steep and slippery and when we got to the top we had views of of all around Pataua and of all the islands like Little Barrier,Great Barrier,Hen And Chicks and the Poor Knights. It wasn`t an easy journey down because you kept slipping over. When we got back we went for a bike ride on a dirt track and got really dirty because of all the puddles, when we got back it was time to leave. I had a great time and loved it! Visited with the Alexander-Crawford family this afternoon. Phil, Nik, Tayla, Georgia, Billy & Maia have been following our blog with interest as they are off on a family holiday to the USA and Mexico in October this year. Over tea/coffee we started a blog, much to poor Maia's disgust as she was enjoying a story! I left Nik sitting on the couch having made her first post. 5 hours later I logged on and imagine my surprise when she has mastered blogging - posts about Maia and Billy and a Rock You picture show! This photo story was made by a 4 year old boy at Kindergarten. Sam was able to competently take the photos with the digital camera, load the photos onto the computer and with a little help organise them into the photo story. Sam showed his self confidence by talking to his photos! I helped Sam upload this story to our Kindergarten blog. What a wonderful way of sharing his ICT skills with friends and family! I continue to be impressed and inspired by the skills of our Kindergarten children.

Back down to Earth with a Crash!

Well have been home 5 days and has been very busy. Fitted in staff meetings, trip to Auckland for ICT professional learning, back to work and back to my life as a taxi driver and chief organiser for Jordan & Kesia. Auckland started bad and ended bad but the ICT course and venue were fantastic. The day started at 5.15am with a phone call from Beverly to say she had had an accident on way to my house - all OK - just parked her car in a paddock for the day! Venue was Botanical Gardens in Auckland and as part of our learning got the chance to explore and take photos. Definatley a place worth going back to for a better look. The day ended with me getting a speeding ticket - i blame Scott's car - not used to driving it and it doesn't even seem like your going fast! Anyway there went $120.00. Not sure if the Ministry of Education will cover that one! Just off on the soccer run. Keep up with Scott's blog and now even Mum has started a blog! There is a link of this blog.

Last day in LA and back to NZ

Our last day in LA was spent at Santa Monica and Venice Beach. We began with brunch at IHOP - American Chain, International House of Pancakes! HUGE meals and not as nice as we'd hoped. Kesia barely looked like she'd touched her chocolate chip pancakes! All left feeling BLAH! Headed straight to the bike hire place and hired tandem bikes for. Amazing cycle ways, over 24miles along coast between beaches. Spent an hour cycling round, awesome on tandems! Checked out Venice Beach and Muscle Beach. What a sight. Lots of strong men and women parading their stuff and skills on the equipment. Jordan & Kesia tried out a tight rope and some bars. Took back our bikes then spent time at Pacific Pier where Jordan & Kesia tried out yet another roller coaster. Time for shopping on 3rd Street Promenade and Jordan & Kesia had their last wetzel pretzel! They were definately a favourite of the trip. YUM! Took a drive along coast to Malibu and Scott and Jordan gazed and googled over lots of flash cars! Headed to the Airport and had fun trying to find where we left from, luckily we had lots of time. Had our last Starbucks and spent time looking at photos on computer and supposedly loading them onto CD for me to bring home - (unfortunately when i went to put photos on home laptop the CD was empty!) Sad Goodbyes to Scott before we made our way through to wait for our plane. Long wait and plenty of time to play cards and buy lollies for the trip! Jordan & Kesia managed to sleep 8 hours on the plane so great trip for them. Arrived home exhausted and shattered but with amazing memories and stories to tell. Hoping Scott will add some photos of our last day to this blog. Let's wait and see! Once again thanks to everyone for sharing our blog and look forward to catching up with everyone soon.

Perhaps this is what our Whangarei Farmers Market will look like in 20 years! This Farmers Market started out in the 1930's and now is HUGE - more like a shopping centre but still heaps of food stalls and produce stalls. Enjoyed our last dinner together and last night in LA. Look forward to New Zealand food and lots of invitations to dinner while Scott's away - you all know how good i am at cooking!

Hollywood

Enjoyed a sunny but very hazy LA day cruising the streets of Hollywood looking at the mansions of the rich and famous in Beverly Hills, Bel Air and Mulholland Drive. Walked the Hollywood walk of fame and went to the Chinese Theatre for the hand,foot prints and messages from the stars. Saw the Kodak Theatre where the Oscars are presented. Only famous spotting for real was Stephen Spielberg in his very flash car on Rodeo Drive. Scott not quite quick enough with the camera but kind of a glimpse on film! Not great shots of the famous Hollywood on the hill because of very hazy weather. Told by the locals its something to do with the sea but we think its just smog! Enjoyed driving around all the Boulevard's we've only ever heard of -Hollywood Boulevard, Sunset Boulevard and Santa Monica Boulevard. Farmer's Markets in the evening for dinner and a tram ride! Last day tomorrow - spending it at Santa Monica Pier and Venice Beach, hoping to hire bikes again. Don't need to be at Airport until 6.30pm so plenty of time for final sight seeing! This will be our last blog until we are back in NZ. Looking forward to seeing everyone soon. Thanks to everyone who has made comments on our blog, we have really loved sharing it with you! We leave LA 9.30pm Sunday night which is about 4.30pm Monday afternoon NZ time. Arrive home 5.30am NZ time Tuesday. We lose Monday - hopefully will sleep heaps!

PS Manaia Kindergarten Children - I think this must be where Beverly used to live! Lots of the streets have her name on them and there is even a Beverly Hills! I wonder which house was hers. Can you see Beverly's name on a sign?

Las Vegas to LA road trip by Kesia

What a long trip! Las Vegas to LA took us about 5 hours, when we were leaving we went to a shopping Mall and bought some stuff. We bought something for everybody. When we had finished shopping we went to the food court and had lunch. I had Burger King. When we had hit the road again we went through the desert and it was hot, we saw some really weird cactus trees that you will see in the pictures, lots of sand tornadoes and long long long long straight roads that went on forever! On the way as well we saw the Worlds BIGGEST thermometer. It was 96 degrees which is about 35c. When we were in LA finally we hit the traffic, Mum said if we hadn't stopped at the shopping mall we probably would have missed the traffic. When we finally got to our Hotel i went and did some washing with Dad and found a Starbucks while we were waiting for the washing. Tammy said there is a Starbucks on every corner and she was right! Jordan and I got a hot chocolate, Mum got a chai latte and Dad got a coffee. Watching TV now and are going to dinner soon.

Jordan's Birthday Story

We started the day by catching the deuce bus, which is a shuttle bus, down to the Exalibur Hotel & Casino which looks like a castle, we had a buffet breakfast including ice cream, chocolate sauce and crunchie bits and cream! Also bacon and pancakes. Then we walked across the road to M & M World where there were 4 stories of M & M stuff. I spent some of my birthday money from The Vinsons on an M & M dispenser and i spent some other money on a bag that i could fill up with as many M & M's as i wanted for my dispenser. Next we went back to our Hotel on the deuce and had a refreshing swim because it was sooooo hot! After our swim we went to the Adventuredome and went on the roller coaster 5 times because it was so cool. Kesia made Dad come the first time because she was scared! But then she loved it and went on it 4 more times, and even sat at the front! Then we went to dinner at an Italian/Mexican place and I chose my own pizza toppings. After dinner we went to the kids casino which had heaps of games. The one in the photo is horse racing - you need to roll balls into the holes to make the horses move towards the other end. The first one to get to the end wins. I won the one in this photo and won a soft toy. We won about 7 soft toys throughout the whole kids casino. I am going to give one to Amara, Billy and Jackson and other people. Now we are in LA staying on Sunset Boulevard.

Las Vegas Lights!

Your probably all wondering how I am going to get the Hummer home... still thinking of an idea myself but have been saving all my nickels to have a go! Seen a few free shows tonight - The Freemont Experience and Belaggio Fountain. Both very cool. Jordan & Kesia absolutely shattered and over walking up and down Las Vegas Boulevard. Jordan's birthday tomorrow so out for buffet breakfast and then explore Adventuredome at hotel. Las Vegas is all it's ever said to be and then some. Certainly some sights. Quite pleased i'm not a gambler!

On the Road - The Hoover Dam

Short trip of about 240 miles from Williams to Vegas Hoover Dam on the way very busy and slow traveling through there. Pretty impressive sight. We stopped and had a look around then back in the car to Vegas.

Get your kicks on Route 66!

Really enjoyed nights in Flagstaff and Williams - real cowboy and indian America! Jordan's turn to choose where to eat dinner in Williams - enjoyed the American cuisine and one man guitar singing band at the Route 66 Cafe. Huge amount of cruisers on big bikes arriving along their Route 66 journey. Amazing place. Left Williams Tuesday morning to head for Las Vegas, through the Hoover Dam... Freeways amazing long and straight, Jordan & Kesia able to read, play games and write postcards while travelling without getting car sick! Real bonus, makes travelling lots more fun, not to mention being able to cruise at 75 miles per hour!

On Monday we went to the Grand Canyon. HUGE! We walked around the rim of the Grand Canyon, well some of the rim, it was amazing! Guess what, we went on a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon! It was incredible!

Our Road Trip San Diego to Flagstaff by Kesia

It was a long drive from San Diego to Yuma where we stayed one night. It is a little town in the dessert, it is very hot there. The pool was freezing at our hotel that we stayed at. We went for dinner at Denny's and Jordan and I got to eat free. The next day we had a swim in the freezing pool and then had breakfast and then we jumped in the car and did another 4 hour trip. We stopped in Phoenix to have lunch and it was hotter in Phoenix! We went to Fridays for lunch. Then we got in the car again and travelled all the way to Flagstaff. When we got to Flagstaff it wasn't that hot as in Yuma and Phoenix. On the way in the car we saw lots of cactuses, the dessert, lots of pine trees, rocky mountains, sandstorms, big trucks, border patrols, lots of RV's and RV parks, Jordan and I only slept for about 1/2 an hour. When we got to our hotel in Flagstaff we had a swim and had indian for dinner. Today we are going to the Grand Canyon, it's about 1 hour away. We will put the photos on the blog.

These are some photos of Mexico. Is it a Zebra or is it a donkey? What do you think? It is actually a donkey painted like a Zebra. The Donkeys were on the side of the street and people could get their photos taken on them, the man was like telling us to get our photo taken and was trying to get us to do it so we did it. We were walking around the shops and everyone was begging for us to go into their shops. We walked across the border to get into Mexico and caught a taxi to the middle of Tijuana. To get back we caught the bus and we had to show them our passports so we could get back to America. I'm having a fantastic time in America! Bye Kesia

Another amazing park on a awesome sunny day! We arrived at
Seaworld to learn a baby dolphin had been born during the night so were lucky enough to view the baby with it's Mum. A new baby girl for Seaworld! Kesia and Jordan got to feed and pat dolphins which was a real buzz. The Shamu - Killer Whale - show was fantastic and a great day watching animals at play. Kids and Scott enjoyed roller coaster rides and water rides, I was the photographer! (Always need one of those you know...) Mexico today for a very short trip - definately different country. Brought the tourist T.Shirt for Kesia and a mexican slingshot for Jordan (look out Tawhai Place) - back through customs and into the comfort of San Diego. Packing up this afternoon to start trip up to Grand Canyon. Catching up with Tammy before we leave - have been so lucky to stay in Freddie's parents beach house in La Jolla. Really enjoyed space and real kitchen. Has been awesome to meet Newbie's friends and hope we can someday repay their amazing American hospitality. Has been a real highlight of our holiday meeting them. Thanks heaps Tammy & Freddie!

Another hot day in San Diego. Spent the morning at the Wildlife Park and then afternoon cooling down in the Hotel Pool. Wildlife Park great, lots of amazing animals and awesome setting. First time in USA we have driven on a one lane road - right out in the wild!

Great night - went to dinner at Tammy and Freddie's house - friends of Newbies. Freddie is a chef and cooked up a storm! Real American food and loads of vegetables. Best meal we have had in America by far. Fantastic couple, walked down to the beach for sunset and along the rocks checking out the homes of far to rich people. Visited the seals who have made their home on the best beach in La Jolla. Our best night yet - great company and great food. Thanks Tammy and Freddie and of course Newbie for hooking us up with his friends.

LA to San Diego

Before we left LA Kesia just had to do the Hannah Montana makeover experience! We had been in and out of the shop over our 4 days at Downtown Disney and the lines were always endless! This morning was the day to get up early and get down there just before it opened to wait in line. Kesia was in luck and had her nails and hair done beautifully! Drove down to San Diego and down to the Harbour to look at some Naval Aircraft Carrier warship thing. Needless to say Kesia and I were over it after the first 10mins but Scott and Jordan loving it. Luckily we weren't able to complete the whole tour as our meter was going to run out. How sad!

Our last day at Disneyland and Disney California today - a day to redo rides we loved! Another amazing day although I was feeling a little sick towards the end - too many rides - Monday great day to go, lines alot shorter and only 5mins wait time as opposed to 45min some other days! Very sad to know that our days at Disney are over - as I have said before, a wonderful place and just like Walt Disney said, a place of dreams and imagination...

A great day in the sunshine - Scott and I on bikes and the kids rollerblading. Must admit I was a bit worried about broken bones so soon into our holiday but all good! An amazing place! Check out our transport!

Learning to use hyperlink - a great website Naketa has found is Graffiti Creator. To hyperlink this site I needed to highlight Grafitti Creator and then push the hyperlink symbol (world with chain thing on top!) and then insert/type in URL address.

The days and weeks are going far to fast and time on the computer besides work stuff is not happening! Just reading through our ICT report visit and part of my 'to do' list was another blog entry so here I am on a Sunday afternoon. Looking forward to a one on one training session with Naketa tomorrow learning how to upload photos for blog and hopefully learning more about blogging. Also looking forward to holiday to USA on Thursday and knowing how to blog efficiently so Kindergarten children are able to follow my travels.

My First Blog Ever!

WOW it's a Saturday night and I am sitting at home creating a blog! I really am turning into an ICT Techie geek! The possibilities of ICT are endless! I have always been interested in learning new technology and as a Kindergarten Teacher have been inspired by children's interest and excitement using ICT - being a part of the ECEICTPL has been an extraordinary journey and totally fast tracked! It is exciting to be learning so much and being able to share knowledge with the children, families and whanau of the Parua Bay community. It is fantastic that we are all learning together and sharing ideas. I know my children are also going to benefit from this experience and have all sorts of ideas buzzing in my head. We are travelling to America in a couple of months and I imagine creating blogs for my children to diary their travels! Won't they just love me!
